Mr. Pierre Laporte Appointed Minister for Finance, Economic Planning, Trade and Investment

The new Minister for Finance, Economic Planning, Trade and Investment, Mr. Pierre Laporte, formally took office on Friday, 7th November 2025.

Minister Laporte was sworn in on Thursday, 6th November, following his confirmation by the National Assembly on 30th October.

He is no stranger to the role, having previously served at the helm of the Ministry between 2012 and 2015. An economist by profession, Minister Laporte brings with him extensive experience and expertise in finance and economic management.

He began his career at the Central Bank of Seychelles, before joining the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where in 2005, he was appointed the Fund’s Resident Representative in Niger.

Three years later, he returned to Seychelles to assume the position of Governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles, at the height of one of the country’s most challenging economic and financial crises.

Minister Laporte held the position of Governor until 2012, when he was appointed Minister for Finance, Trade and Investment. He later left the public sector in 2015 to join the private sector as Chief Executive Officer of SACOS Group Ltd.

Shortly thereafter, he was offered a position with the World Bank, where he spent the past ten years serving as Country Director in several member states of the institution.
