Government delays implementation of Tourism Environment Sustainability Levy

The Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade has announced the postponement in the implementation of the Tourism Environmental Levy, initially to take effect on 1st April.

The delay in implementation, follows discussions and consultations carried out with the Tourism industry on the introduction of the Levy, to which the Ministry has presented to the Government the views and proposals put forward by the Industry.

Having considered the views of the Industry positively, the Government has requested the Ministry to undertake further assessment on the most feasible option that would circumvent issues addressed by the Industry whilst ensuring that the intended fiscal and environmental objectives are not affected.

Details of the structure and date of implementation of the Levy will be communicated to the Industry within two weeks.
