Ministry bids farewell to VP Ahmed Afif, Minister for Finance, National Planning and Trade

This morning, the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade held a special management meeting to bid farewell to Vice President Ahmed Afif, who also served as Minister for Finance, National Planning and Trade.

To express the Ministry’s appreciation for his leadership and guidance, Secretary of State Patrick Payet presented the Vice President with a token of appreciation on behalf of management and staff.

In his remarks, Vice President Afif described the Ministry’s team as “one of the best teams I have worked with.”

“During the past five years, you have not been afraid to share your professional opinions on decisions that needed to be taken. Your views were respected and valued. You have shown discipline and dedication, which have gone a long way in strengthening the country’s economic and financial position.”

He also commended the staff’s strong work ethic, saying, “When there was a job to be done, you rolled up your sleeves and got to it — there was no such thing as an 8-to-4 attitude with you.”

Offering parting advice, he added, “Continue to work as you always have — with respect and professionalism. Share your opinions on issues that matter, because you all deserve the greatest respect for how you have continued to deliver for this country.”

On behalf of the Ministry, SS Patrick Payet extended heartfelt thanks to Vice President Afif for his leadership during the ten months he headed the portfolio.

“We took great comfort when it was announced that you would be taking over from Minister Hassan, as we already shared a strong working relationship with you. That ensured a smooth transition. You have continuously supported us — whether at Cabinet level or in the National Assembly — and have always valued our technical expertise. On behalf of management, staff, and the entire finance portfolio, we thank you sincerely for your guidance and wish you every success in your future endeavours.”

VP Afif’s term is ending as a new administration is to be sworn on Sunday, following the national elections earlier this month.
