The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the Seychelles African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation Strategy.
Seychelles signed the AfCFTA Agreement in 2018 and the ratification took place in 2021.
To draft the strategy, various workshops with key stakeholders were held during the course of 2024, and the document was validated in late December.
The Trade Department worked in partnership with UNECA, GIZ, UNDP and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat to draft and finalise the document.
The strategy and its action plan will enable the country to take full advantage of potential opportunities provided by the AfCFTA, by identifying the sectors in both goods and services, offering the greatest potentials for value addition and opportunities for value chain integration at regional and continental levels.
It also relies on previous long-term and medium-term plans and development strategies, notably Seychelles Vision 2033 and the National Development Strategy (NDS) 2024-2028, as well as other frameworks and planning tools adopted by the Government of Seychelles (GoS) to achieve sustainable economic development.
