World Bank Working Mission to Seychelles

This morning the World Bank Regional Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Mrs. Victoria Kwakwa paid a courtesy call on Minister Naadir Hassan.

Mrs. Kwakwa is on a 2 day working mission to Seychelles.

Discussions focused on new areas of collaboration, such as;
Climate Finance/Coastal Erosion
Social Issues especially the ‘Youth at Risk’ sector
Conducting a functioning review of the public service to boost efficiency
Renewable Energy

Mrs Kwakwa said ‘It is very important for us to hear from our client, in particular the voice of small island states. World Bank is ready to support Seychelles.”

Minister Hassan noted the ‘importance of working with development partners such as World Bank, especially in the co-ordination and alignment of objectives, given that resources are scarce.”

On their first day of their mission, the delegation visited several sites on Mahe, especially on the east coast, where mitigation measures are being undertaken to halt the effect of climate change.

The delegation was accompanied by Minister Naadir Hassan and officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment.
