Staff of the Ministry donates to three colleagues participating in the IOI Games

The Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade has sponsored three of its staff who will be participating in the forthcoming Indian Ocean Islands Games to be held in Madagascar from 25th August.

In a ceremony, this afternoon (Monday 21st August, 2023), at Liberty House, Secretary of State, Mr. Patrick Payet, presented Angelique Adeline (female volleyball player), Rama Lesperance (male volleyball player) and Dashield Fanchette (boxer) with the donation.

The donation was graciously sponsored by staff of the Ministry.

In his sending off of the three athletes, SS Payet has congratulated them for making the final team, and has wished them the best of luck.

“Be positive, and make yourself proud. To have made it into the final team, shows that you have what it takes to represent your country at one of the highest regional sporting event. Now is the time to shine, and showcase your skills and determination. Bring back the medals. Congratulations.”

All three athletes say they are ready for the games and will give their all to bring back medals.

While absent for the ceremony, Minister Naadir Hassan has sent a message of congratulations to Angelique, Rama and Dashield.

“To represent your country is an immense honour and for you to have accepted that honour, I want to express my appreciation. Now that the games are upon us, honour your country, yourself and your talent by performing at your absolute best at every level of the competition. Stay positive and confident in your ability to face your opponent. Congratulations to all three of you.”

About the athletes
Angelique Adeline, works as a Senior Trade Officer at the Department of Trade. She is a volleyball player. It is her second IOIG, after her first participation in the games during the 10th edition in 2019, held in Mauritius. Angelique is a gold medallist and she will be playing to defend her medal.

Rama Lesperance, works as a Senior Policy Analyst at the Financial Services Development Division and is a volleyball player. It is the first time that Rama is selected for Team Seychelles. His current local volleyball team is St Francis Brothers.

Dashield Fanchette, works at the Treasury Division as an Account Technician. Dashield is a boxer in the light-heavy weight category. It is also his first time representing Seychelles at the Indian Ocean Islands Games.

The Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade congratulates Angelique, Rama and Dashield on their selection and wishes them and Team Seychelles, the best of luck at the 11th Indian Ocean Islands Games in Madagascar.
