Ugandan delegation on fact finding mission to Seychelles

A delegation from the Ugandan Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development was in the country last week as part of a fact finding mission to learn about Seychelles successes in implementing structural reforms.

The delegation was hosted by the Public Enterprise Monitoring Commission (PEMC), and they had discussions with the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade.

Particular interest for the delegation was Seychelles experience on fiscal risks and how they are reported on as part of the budget.

Subsequently, the delegation met with officials of the Macroeconomic Forecasting and Analysis Branch, headed by Director General Yannick Vel.

Mr. Vel highlighted that Seychelles’ ‘fiscal risk statement is seen in the region as a high standard example’.

At the end of the mission, the delegation paid a courtesy call on Secretary of State in the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade, Mr. Patrick Payet, briefing him on their findings and what they have learnt.

Uganda is in the midst of a reform program, and as part of this reform, it was felt necessary that a benchmarking exercise be conducted with countries within the region as a starting point and Seychelles has been selected for such.
