Crew members will be charged taxes only on declared goods brought in, in excess of their allowance

Subject to an amendment to the Customs Management Passenger Allowance Regulations 2018 (SI 52 2018), crew members will be charged taxes only on declared goods brought in, in excess of their allowance, rather than the whole consignment, as is currently the case.

The amendment will bring parity in the treatment of goods imported in excess of the crew allowance versus that which is applicable to normal passengers.

The Cabinet of Ministers agreed to amend the Customs Management Passenger Allowance Regulations 2018 (SI 52 of 2018), in its session of 08th September 2021.

However, note that any undeclared goods are still subject to penalties, as prescribed by the Customs Management Act, 2011.
