Recently, two trade officers of the Department for Trade, Mr. Leeroy Camille and Mr. Yannick Robert followed an eight week course on trade policy for officials of English speaking African members and Observers of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
This Regional Trade Policy Course (RTPC) was organized by the WTO Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation (ITTC) in partnership with the University of Mauritius (UoM).
Upon the successful completion of the course, Mr. Camille and Mr. Robert received their Diplomas.
Both participants said the training has enhanced their knowledge, in particular, identifying how the WTO agreements facilitate international trade.
“The key takeaways of the WTO Regional Trade Policy Course are, enhanced knowledge on the purpose of the WTO, the agreements and its linkages to international trade and global economy, both historically and in the contemporary setting. More importantly, the continued evolution of the Multilateral Trading System through active involvement of its members and consensus based decision making”, said Mr. Camille.
The training aims to equip government officials with enhanced knowledge and skills on the Multilateral Trading System and its agreements to ensure continuity, predictability, interdependence and transparency of the nexus in international trade.
“The WTO Regional Trade Policy course expanded my understanding of the Multilateral Trading System, shedding light on the delicate balance of International Trade while encompassing the common and differentiated needs of each Member”, explained Mr. Robert.
The training is in line with the Ministry’s vision to foster academic learning and technical know-how of its employees, as to ensure efficient delivery in their respective duties as well as the Ministry’s human resource strategy and commitment towards training, capacity building and development.
