Cabinet to hold Extraordinary meeting to discuss Air Seychelles

In line with the Government’s earlier announcement that it will assess the performance of the national carrier, Air Seychelles, before it takes a decision on the future of the airline, the Cabinet of Ministers have agreed to hold an Extraordinary Meeting on Monday 14th June to discuss the issue further and make a decision.

The decision to have the Extraordinary Meeting follows recent assessment of the performance of the airline.

To note, earlier this year, during his State of the Nation Address, President Wavel Ramkalawan, launched a national debate on the future of Air Seychelles. President Ramkalawan said that the airline has to prove that it can survive on its own, because as of next year the Government will no longer be subsidizing its operation.

In this year’s budget, the Government has allocated a sum of R133 million as subsidy, in which R103.724 million is meant as salary support.

In the meantime, any decision in regards to Air Seychelles restructuring will be made at the Extraordinary Meeting which the Cabinet of Ministers will held on Monday 14th June 2021.
