La Misere Water Pollution Compensation Payment – Update

The Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade has announced that as of Friday 02nd August, it has paid a total sum of SCR 35,815,000.00 to the 2020 La Misere Water Pollution claimants, as part of the second and final compensation claim.

The Ministry is urging those who qualified as per the 2020 claimant list to continue to undertake the necessary actions to ensure their documents are in order, especially their bank details, given issues encountered when processing payments.

Thus, it is appealing to individuals who were issued cheques in 2020 to update their bank details or those who have had their accounts flagged as either dormant or inactive, claimants who were minors in 2020, but have now turned 18 and above, and those who are not recognized as beneficiaries by the bank, to open their own bank accounts for payment to be effected.

The Ministry kick started the process of compensation payment for the La Misere Water Pollution, based on the 2020 claimants list, on 19th June, 2024.
The compensation payment was announced in the 2024 Budget by the Minister for Finance, National Planning and Trade, Naadir Hassan.

This is the second and final compensation payment of the La Misere Water Pollution, an incident which took place in 2010.
