Review of Customs Management (Tariff and Classification of Goods) Regulations postponed till 1st April

Monday 26th February 2018, VICTORIA, SEYCHELLES: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the review of the Customs Management (Tariff and Classification of Goods) Regulations, in line with the migration process from version 2007 to version 2017 of the World Customs Organisation Harmonised Commodity Description and Coding System (HS) will now come into effect on the 1st April, 2018.

The regulation was scheduled to come into effect on the 1st March, 2018.

And in view of the revision of the enactment date of the new Customs Management (Tariff and Classification of Goods) Regulations, all related Regulations shall also come into effect on 1st April, 2018.

In line with the migration process, several changes were proposed to be implemented to harmonise with the new Customs Management (Tariff and Classification of Goods) Regulations. These include:

1)      Revision of Value Added Tax (VAT) on several products such as babies’ garments and clothing accessories, homogenised preparations of fruit for babies and baby carriages;

2)      The reduction in Customs Duties on protective clothing to 0%; and

3)      The revision in excise tax applicable on plug-in electric hybrid motor vehicles.
