Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Seychelles Authors and Composers Society and the Seychelles Licensing Authority

On Friday 26th April 2019, the Seychelles Authors and Composers Society (SACS) and the Seychelles Licensing Authority (SLA) will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding during the closing ceremony of the National Copyright Workshop at 1430 at the Care House in Victoria.
The aim of the Memorandum of Understanding is to facilitate the collection of royalties by SACS is the appointed licensing body for the collection of royalties for copyrighted musical works under the Copyright Act 2014. This agreement will ensure that licensed entertainment establishments using copyrighted musical works has settled their royalties with SACS in accordance with the Copyright law. The licensed entertainment establishments are namely, Hotels, Restaurants, Discotheques, Public Bars, Members Club, and any other licensed entertainment establishments using copyrighted musical works.
Further efforts will follow the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding to ensure effective legal and administrative procedures in relation to the terms set out under this Memorandum of Understanding.
The aforementioned Memorandum of Understanding is in an effort to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Copyright Act 2014 and ensure due reward for copyright owners as administered under that Act.
The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding between SACS and SLA will also be in commemoration of the World Intellectual Property Day, which is celebrated on the 26th April of every year.
