Appleby Group

Mr. Vice President

It gives me great pleasure in welcoming a firm of the stature of Appleby to the Seychelles.  I believe that such a move further highlights to the financial services world the opportunities that both the Seychelles and Appleby have to offer to this industry, an industry that continues to grow in importance around the world and to which Seychelles is determined to play a key role.

To reflect on the progress of Seychelles in establishing its own financial services industry, being an industry that has and continues to shape the economies of the world, including within the Seychelles economy itself, when the Seychelles Government embarked on its strategy in diversifying its economic base, it was cognizant of the need in providing the enabling environment to support and encourage such activity, hence the launch of SIBA in 1995.

Today SIBA stands as success with skilled and able young  Seychellois  employed directly in the industry and within other support sectors, primarily the banking sector, a sector much needed for a successful financial services industry.

To all I wish to express, on behalf of Government, our acknowledgement of the challenge taken up by our Seychellois professionals, I will go further to acknowledge that we stand here proud of the collective effort that went into launching and growing the industry by Seychellois who today share the opportunities with our foreign partners, such as Appleby, Mr Peter Bubenzer, Group Managing Partner and party, representing the Appleby ‘family’ worldwide, we welcome  to the Seychelles!!!

I am confident, the measures that we in the Government have taken in respect to our fiscal and monetary policies, in face of the current worldwide economic trends, prepares the Seychelles in facing these challenges with confidence and the entry of Appleby reassures the Government that the program that we have put forward has and will continue to achieve the goals set for our country.

We welcome partners such as APPLEBY, and commend them on their decision to establish a base in Seychelles not just as an internationally recognized player within our financial services industry but who I am confident will play their own part in also contributing to the overall economic environment of our country and to share the opportunities that Seychelles has to offer.

As evidence of their sound business and community principles as regards corporate social responsibility I am very pleased to acknowledge and commend, Appleby’s announcement to offering TWO fully sponsored scholarship in Law.

Such a gesture has significant meaning to our young Seychellois who search for the opportunity in achieving their professional goals, Mr. Bubenzer, on behalf of the community, I say thank you.

It remains for me, on behalf of Government to state our commitment to the financial services industry and call on all sectors to support this sector of our economy for a better Seychelles.

I thank you!
