Importation of Hand Sanitisers

INTRODUCTION OF CONTROLS ON IMPORTATION OF HAND SANITISERS

Monday 21st September 2020: The Ministry of Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning would like to inform the general public that in line with the decision of Cabinet of Ministers in their meeting of 9th September 2020 that the importation of hand sanitisers will be restricted.

Subsequently, the general public is being informed that as of 1st October 2020, an import permit will be required before the importation of hand sanitisers, conditional to the approval of the Department of Health. The Department has observed the need to control the importation of these products to ensure that the products are of adequate standards, especially during this pandemic whereby it is essential that products being used for sanitising purposes meet the minimum standard required.

The requirements in terms of the ingredients used for its preparation would be as per the World Health Organization Guidelines, which can be obtained from the Public Health Authority. The guideline can also be found at the Import/Export Permit Unit in the Trade Division, the website of the Ministry of Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning and the Customs Division.

The Ministry would like to highlight that all taxes remain applicable upon importation.
