First batch of La Misere compensation payments to be disbursed
March 27, 2020
Friday 27th March 2020: Following the announcement made by Minister Loustau-Lalanne on 11th March 2020, the first batch of compensation payments to victims of the 2010 La Misere pollution incident will be made tomorrow, Saturday 28th March 2020 between 9am and 3pm at the La Misere school.
We appeal to all claimants that ONLY those beneficiaries who have already been contacted by the Committee and advised that payment will be made should come to the school.
Anyone who has not yet submitted a copy of their National Identity Card to the Ministry of Finance are urged to do so in order for them to receive their cheques in the next batch of payments, which will be announced at a later date.
The second batch of payments will include a mixture of around 600 beneficiaries from all the affected groups, including La Misere residents, Petit Barbarons residents and students and teachers from the La Misere School and Seychelles Tourism Academy.
In the light of the COVID-19 best practices as recommended by Public Health, we ask that people should not come in large groups, and that if multiple people in the same family need to collect their cheques, that they come one by one wherever possible. The Division of Disaster Risk Management will be present on site to monitor the queues and implement social distancing measures to protect the public and staff alike.
