Investment Policy Review workshop

January 28, 2020

Tuesday 28th January 2020: The Government of Seychelles through the Department of Investment had requested UNCTAD to carry out an Investment Policy Review (IPR) in the Seychelles, to review the business environment in the country to bring about consistency, predictability and confidence as well as to simplify the Investment Procedures.

This is being done in a workshop, which will take place on Thursday 30th January 2020 at the Avani Resort, Barbarons from 0800 – 1700 hrs. The Ambassador Loustau-Lalanne, Minister for Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning will be doing the opening remark as from 0830hrs

The Review (IPR) will assess the country’s legal, regulatory and institutional framework for investment, and also include the analysis of FDI-specific regulations (investment laws, sectoral investment regulations and international investment agreements), and also general regulatory and operational aspects affecting both domestic and foreign investors (such as issues related to tax policy, competition, trade, environmental protection, business operations, intellectual property etc.).

The analysis will provide concrete policy recommendations to foster economic diversification, private sector development as well as institutional development and capacity building.

Beyond the analysis of the investment climate, the Review will contain a chapter tailored to Entrepreneurship development in Seychelles. This will take into consideration the work being done by the Government as well as other development partners to foster coherence and synergies.
