Seychelles and Pakistan; towards more collaboration

Thursday 31st January 2019: H.E Syed Rizwan Ahmed, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan yesterday paid a courtesy call on Mr. Maurice Loustau Lalanne, Minister for Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning.

 The meeting which was held at Liberty House, at 2.00 p.m, highlights the good bilateral corporation that exists between the Seychelles and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. A number of issues were discussed mainly, the line of credit opened by Pakistan years ago, scholarships opportunities, maritime security, and tourism.

 Minister Lalanne pointed out that “the existing collaboration need to continue, especially for scholarships in banking and other relevant areas”. Whilst Ambassador Ahmed stated that Pakistan is already offering certain courses, and that he is “happy that people from Seychelles are coming over for courses”.

 The issue of maritime security was also discussed at length. Pakistan was part of the task force assisting with Somali pirates in the region and there is an ongoing coordination with the Seychelles Coast Guard. Minister Lalanne also commended the work being done by Pakistan in combatting piracy in our territorial waters.

 H.E Syed Rizwan Ahmed, also called on other Ministers during his visit. He leaves the country today.
