December 30, 2024
The Office of the Minister announces the departure of Minister Naadir Hassan who is stepping down from his position as from 31st January.
After over 4 years in the public sector Minister Naadir Hassan has decided to pursue a new opportunity in the private sector.
During his tenure, Minister Hassan has been instrumental in managing the economic crisis brought about by the Covid 19 pandemic and bringing the country’s economic and financial fundamentals back to sustainable levels.
His leadership has also been marked by strategic vision, an unwavering commitment to push for the digital transformation in Seychelles.
In a press conference this afternoon, at State House, where President Wavel Ramkalawan officially announced the departure from government of Minister Hassan, the President expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the work undertaken by the latter during his 4-year tenure as Minister.
“After much discussions between Minister Hassan and I, I have accepted his departure from government given his many accomplishments during his tenure at the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade. Just as four years ago, he joined the government from the private sector, he is now leaving the government to re-join the private sector. On behalf of the people of Seychelles, the government and on my personal behalf, I want to extend my appreciation to my brother Naadir for his dedication, and hard work. His loyalty and commitment towards our people and country has been extraordinary. I wish him the very best on his new journey.”
The President pointed out that even though Minister Hassan is leaving the government, he remains a ‘Child of Seychelles’ and through his valuable contributions he will continue to provide support and assistance whenever possible.
“In this context, I am announcing that Minister Hassan will be appointed as the new chairman of the Board of the state owned entity, Islands Development Company (IDC), upon his departure from government.”
Minister Hassan has expressed his gratitude for the opportunity given to him by President Wavel Ramkalawan to serve the people of Seychelles.
“Firstly, I want to thank the President for the trust he had in me four years ago to lead the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade. You certainly saw something in me to offer such a position where I could deliver for my country. I hope that I have deliver to your expectation. It has been an incredible honour which I will never forget. Secondly, the ministry has received immense support from you, Mr President and the Cabinet which has allowed us to overcome the many challenges our country has faced during that time. Your support was critical in the decisions that we took to relaunch our economy. Thirdly, Mr President, thank you for having such an open mind to understand my situation and rise above politics to accept my decision. This shows your political maturity and compassion, which are character traits our people should see and appreciate.”
Minister Hassan has also expressed his gratitude to the professional dedicated team of technicians working at the Ministry who has played a key role in the Seychelles economic recovery.
“The staff of the Ministry is one of the most professional and competent that I have worked with. I am reassured that with this group of professional technicians, our country is in good hands. I have no doubt that the President and Cabinet will continue to support and listen to the technicians. I must say during my tenure, we have evolved from the era where decisions are taken higher up and technicians have to deliver. Today, it is the technicians at the Ministry who are the driving force behind the decisions taken by Cabinet. Decisions taken are based on well research papers. I wish that this approach continues. I am indeed sad that I am leaving the Ministry but I know the team is very strong and will continue to deliver for Seychelles.”
He has appealed to the team at the Ministry to continue to work diligently for the country and to always maintain their sense of professionalism and dedication at all time.
The Vice-President, Mr Ahmed Afif will take over the responsibility for the portfolio until the election.
Minister Hassan was appointed Minister for Finance, National Planning and Trade on 3rd November, 2020.
