1st Joint Steering Committee Meeting for the Cooperation Framework (2024 – 2028) between the Government of Seychelles and the UN concludes with emphasis on Partnerships and Joint Approaches to accelerate the SDGs

In a significant step towards advancing sustainable development goals (SDGs), the Government of Seychelles and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) concluded the first Joint Steering Committee Meeting towards the implementation of the United Nations Cooperation Framework (2024-2028) which brings together 23 UN agencies to directly contribute to the Seychelles National Development Strategy.

The Joint Steering Committee was chaired by Hon. Naadir Hassan, Minister for Finance, National Planning and Trade and Lisa Singh, UN Resident Coordinator for Mauritius and Seychelles.

The Joint Steering Committee brought together senior representatives from both the UN and the Government of Seychelles to provide strategic direction, ensure strong co-ownership and alignment with national priorities and ensure successful implementation trajectory of the UN Cooperation Framework.

The Joint Steering Committee agreed on joint work plans and priorities for 2024 under its three outcome areas: People empowered with sustainable services; Prosperity for youth and vulnerable groups with inclusive economy; Planetary support for building resilience to climate change, bio-diversity losses and pollution.

“Seychelles reaffirms its unwavering commitment to working closely with our UN partners, who consistently demonstrate a shared vision for sustainable and inclusive development. By coordinating our efforts and leveraging the strength of our National Development Strategy (NDS), UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), and other key strategic initiatives, we enhance our capacity to address today’s development needs and prepare for tomorrow's challenges”, said Minister of Finance, National Planning and Trade.

The UN Resident Coordinator underscored that “the Steering committee has the participation of over 23 UN agencies which attests to the commitment of the UN to support Seychelles in accelerating SIDS resilience and is being organised at a crucial moment: between two very important milestones, namely the SIDS IV conference last May in Antigua and Barbuda and the upcoming Summit of the Future in New York in September”.

The meeting was held today at Savoy Resort and Spa and was attended by several Ministers, including Designated Minister, Mr. Jean Francois Ferrari who is also the Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Mrs. Devika Vidot, Minister of Investment, Entrepreneurship and Industry, Mrs. Marie Celine Zialor, Minister of Youth, Sports and Family, Mrs. Patricia Francourt, Minister of Employment and Social Affairs and Mr. Errol Fonseka, Minister of Internal Affairs.
