National Development Strategy 2024-2028 is launched

April 05, 2024

The President of the Republic, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan has officially launched the National Development Strategy 2024-2028.

The launching took place at State House this morning.

The President has urged all Seychellois to unite to translate this document into reality.

"This strategy represents the culmination of months of tireless dedication, collaboration, and vision. It is a testament to our collective commitment to shaping a future that is defined by progress, prosperity, and opportunity for all."

He noted that the strategy is 'built upon a foundation of sustainable development—a development that is not only environmentally responsible but also economically viable and socially equitable.'

The strategy is focusing on six priority areas with the aim of shaping the socio-economic landscape of our nation.

"These priorities have been identified as key strategic areas for development, essential for addressing current challenges and vulnerabilities highlighted and exacerbated by recent events such as the pandemic and geopolitical tensions."

The NDS 2024-2028 is anchored on six priority areas, namely:

A Modern Public Service

Transformative Economic Agenda

A Healthy Nation

An Education System in line with Future Needs

Promotion of Law and Order and

Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change Resilience

The document was worked on and formulated by the National Planning Department within the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade.

In his speech, Minister Naadir Hassan extended a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the department, noting that it took three years to finalise the document, which prompted a lot of discussions, consultations, research and going back and forth.

"The quest to find the right balance on how to move forward as a nation and identify the pillars which will get us to that next phase and elevate our country and people even further, was time consuming and was not something which we took lightly. We felt that the job had to be done right."

The NDS 2024-2028 will serve as a blueprint for the next stage of development for the country, but for its successful implementation it will depend on all our people.

"I am emphasizing the importance of collective action for the successful implementation of this strategy. Through collaborative efforts, we can propel sustainable development forward and shape the prosperous Seychelles we want to achieve. Together, let us work towards a more sustainable and resilient future for generations to come as the NDS 2024-2028 is simply showing us the way, how and what we do to get there will depend on all of us."
