May 15, 2023

Minister Naadir Hassan attended the opening ceremony of the 13th Commonwealth Regional Conference for Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa, this morning.

Following the opening ceremony, Minister Hassan made a presentation on the topic of 'Returning stolen assets to Seychelles and the government support in fighting corruption through ACCS funding.'

Minister Hassan pointed out that during the past five years, the budget allocation of ACCS has gone up by 587%.

He said 'the new administration ran on a manifesto of eliminating corruption and bringing back stolen assets. Hence, the political will and support was and is there.'

Minister Hassan also focused on the importance of collaboration with other countries in order to bring back stolen assets.

"Given the complexities of returning stolen assets, especially the fact that in many cases these assets have been transferred out of the country, it is critical that the ACCS together with local authorities engage to have mutual legal assistance agreements with partner countries, in line with this, discussions have started with a number of countries over assets sharing agreements. The Seychelles authorities, together with the ACCS has already embarked on working on this."
