August 12, 2022

The deadline for private sector employees and all individuals who qualify for the additional electricity support, to register under the Temporary Government Measures to support the lower income earners programme, for the months of July and August, is 17th August.

The deadline is necessary for validation and payment process to take place, before payment can be effected.

Since the start of the registration process on 26th July, beneficiaries from the Agency for Social Protection (ASP), who qualify, have received their first payment.

In total, for the month of July, ASP made payment to 14,506 individuals, which are mainly pensioners (8827), homecarers (3,026), those on Disability (1581) and Invalidity (1072) benefits.

Employees in the public sector have also received their first payment.

Payment, for those from the private sector and all individuals who qualify for the additional support of R300 for electricity bill will be effected at the end of the month or beginning of September.

Up to now, 920 applicants have applied for the assistance: salary and electricity.

To note, another group of beneficiaries can now benefit under the programme; they are pensioners who have taken early retirement, whereby they are receiving a pension from Pension Fund, but are yet to qualify for the retirement benefit at ASP.

This group of pensioners, must follow the same registration process at the District Administration's Office and the same criteria apply.

As of next week, registration will be undertaken only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 10am to 6pm.
