SIT - the winners of the IP Quiz Competition

June 07, 2022

The winners of the Intellectual Property Quiz Competition organised by the Trade Department, received their prizes in a ceremony, this morning.

The winners of the competition are Justus, Denis and Jeffrey from the Seychelles Institute of Technology (SIT).

The quiz competition was targeting youths from post secondary institutions, as this year's theme for World Intellectual Property Day, celebrated every year, on 26th April, was 'IP and Youth Innovating for a Better Future'.

In his opening remarks, the Principal Secretary for Trade, Mr. Ronald Cafrine, emphasised on creating the right environment to enable the youths to 'unleash their full potential.'

"Indeed, innovative and creative thinking must be encouraged in our young Seychellois, as from a very early age. In that line, us, in government must do the needful, to increase engagements with the youth so that they get on with unleashing their full potential. Government must have their backs."

The cash prizes were sponsored by the American Embassy for Seychelles and Mauritius, based in Mauritius -a loyal and key supporter in Seychelles' efforts to spread awareness about the importance of Intellectual Property.

Catherine Volman, Economic Officer from the US Embassy, said in a video recording 'a country where IP rights are well guarded and enforced, creates an environment for businesses to thrive."

The ceremony was also attended by the Political/Economic Assistant at the US Consular Agency in Seychelles, Mrs. Marie-Anette Ernesta and the Registrar General, Mrs. Wendy Pierre.

There were 3 teams, that participated in this year's IP Quiz Competition.
Winner: SIT
Runner up: STA (Team 2)
3rd Position: STA (Team 1)

An elimination round was held on 19th May - all three teams competed against each other, and the two with the most points moved into the final, which was held on 24th May.
