Ministry receives donation of IT Equipment from UNDP
December 10, 2021
The Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Trade has received a donation of 96 laptops and 4 heavy duty scanners from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The consignment was handed over to Minister Naadir Hassan, on Friday 10th December, by the UNDP Resident Representative to Seychelles, Ms. Amanda Serumaga.
When thanking the UNDP, Minister Hassan pointed out that the consignment of IT equipment comes at an opportune time, ‘when the Government is moving forward with its plan to digitalise its services, to become more efficient.’
“As we start laying the foundation to launch the digital economy, the government has to lead the process and lead by example, by digitalizing the public service, in order to enable its system to ‘do more with less.’’
He said the COVID 19 pandemic has changed the normal way of doing things, where the use of technology is ‘no longer an exception, not a luxury, but rather a norm.’
He noted for the Ministry, this consignment of IT equipment will go a long way in enabling staff to work, in any environment, whatever the circumstances, thus guaranteeing business continuity.
“As the custodian of our country’s financial system and economy, my staff have worked tirelessly during this testing time, to ensure that the government honours all its obligations and commitments, and more often than not, they have done this, by working from home. It has not been easy, because we have faced many technological challenges, however they have persevered. I have to say that I am proud of my team. I thank them all for their hard work.”
Mrs. Serumaga assured Minister Hassan, the UNDP will be a partner in the digital transformation agenda the government is currently pushing.
“We are very please to contribute towards this digital transformation.”
The significant donation of IT equipment has been made possible under the UNDP’s COVID 2.0 -Facilitating Recovery through Digital Solutions and Real-time Data Project.
