July 09, 2021
The Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Trade and the Central Bank of Seychelles have launched its awareness campaign on the Economic Reform Programme which Seychelles has embarked on with the support of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Minister Naadir Hassan said “we need all stakeholders to understand the reform the country is undertaking and it is for this reason that we are embarking on this awareness campaign.”
On Thursday 08th July, Minister Hassan, Governor Caroline Abel and Secretary of State within the Ministry, Patrick Payet, met with heads of media houses in an informal meeting, to brief them on the programme, and to answer their queries.
“We are opening up all communication channels with the media and we need to understand each other. We are very aware that we need the media to assist us in sensitizing the country if this reform is going to be a successful.”
Members of the media expressed their appreciation and wish for the informal meeting to continue.
Minister Hassan has assured them that this conversation will be frequent.
The meeting with the media is the first of many, which the two entities leading the reforms are planning. Next week, there will be meetings with representatives of the Civil Society and Private Sector.
To note, it was earlier this week that the Government of Seychelles and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) finalise the Staff-Level Agreement on a $107 million Arrangement under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
The 28 month agreement is subject to IMF Management approval and the Executive Board consideration.
