SRC signs MoU with Seychelles Intelligence Service
May 24, 2021
The Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Seychelles Intelligence Service (SIS).
The signing of the MoU on 07th May 2021, at Maison Collet, cements the working relationship between the two government entities.
Both the SIS and SRC are members on the National Anti-Money Laundering / Combating the Financing of Terrorism Committee (NAC) established in February 2019.
The MoU was signed by the Commissioner General of SRC, Mrs. Veronique Herminie and the Director General of SIS, Mr. Benediste Hoareau.
After the signing of the official document, Mrs Herminie expressed the desire that this MOU “would escalate into improved overall compliance from the collaborative intelligence and investigative efforts for both Tax and Customs.”
She noted, that even without the existence of a formal framework, the two entities have worked together on various cases, involving financial and economic crimes.
“The investigation teams from both entities have worked closely on a number of complex cases and the MoU will merely establish the framework for exchange of information to the extent permitted under the respective laws of each entity.”
Mr. Hoareau pointed out that the working relationship between the two parties is important, taking into consideration their functions.
“By nature of the functions of the two Parties it is important to establish a good rapport and the necessary working relationship given the confidentiality needed to support intelligence gathering and investigations relating to the detection and prevention of serious offences including tax related offences.”
The Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) falls under the purview of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Trade.
