A Labour Day Message from the Minister

April 30, 2021

This coming month, will mark my sixth month since I was appointed Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Trade. It has indeed been my honour and privilege to work with a group of staff, who I can only described as dedicated and professional.

We are a team of nearly 400. From the most senior to the most junior, we all have a role to play to ensure the Ministry runs smoothly and efficiently.

I want to press on the notion that within the Ministry we have to work as a team, because we are only as strong as the weakest link. It is important to keep staff motivated, so they can continuously give their best and that is why we have to create the right environment at work for them to thrive. A happy workforce, means a rise in productivity, because we will all take pride in our work.

The past year has proven to be difficult for everyone. On a financial and economic aspect, it has proven to be more worrisome, because the COVID-19 pandemic has brought economic activities in the country to a near standstill.

Despite the economical and financial hardship, all of you have shown tenacity in assisting to relaunch the country’s economy. The road ahead is still bumpy but I have no doubt in your capacity to make the recovery happen.

As we celebrate World Labour Day, I want to take this opportunity to honour each and every one of you, for your hard work, steadfastness and commitment.

Happy Labour Day to all of you.
