April 23, 2020

The Chairperson of the Financial Assistance for Job Retention (FA4JR) Committee, Secretary of State for Finance Patrick Payet, appeared in a live press conference today to provide an update to the public. The scheme is primarily intended to provide assistance to private sector organisations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to pay their employees salaries, and also provides financial support to self-employed business owners.

SS Payet stated that since the scheme opened on the 29th of March 2020, a total number of 2571 applications had been submitted, 753 of which were for payroll support (Form 1) and 1818 were for self-employed assistance (Form 2). He further stated that a total of 1150 emails had been received, and that the hotline support team had assisted 877 callers.

Since the committee began with final deliberations of applications, a total of 251 applications have reached a final decision from the Committee and payments will start to be processed this week by Treasury.

SS Payet further stated that a large majority of applicants had not filled out their application forms fully or that they had not provided all the required supporting documents, meaning that their applications cannot be processed by the Committee until these missing elements are provided. He appealed to all applicants to ensure that their documents are completed correctly and that all the supporting information is attached as required to avoid unnecessary delays.
