Minister Loustau-Lalanne announces first step for payment of La Misere residents' compensation

The Minister for Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning, Ambassador Maurice Loustau-Lalanne, has announced the government is ready to start processing the payments of the first batch of residents, students and teachers who were affected by the pollution incident at La Misere in 2010.
The first batch, comprised of 558 individuals will be paid as follows;
a) Adult residents & children above 7 years SCR 50, 000 (SCR 25,000 paid in 2020)
b) Children aged 7 years & below SCR 15, 000 (SCR 7,500 paid in 2020)
c) La Misere school students SCR 25, 000 (SCR 12,500 paid in 2020)
d) Seychelles Tourism Academy students and staff SCR 25, 000 (SCR 12,500 paid in 2020)
As indicated in brackets above, only half of the compensation amounts will be paid to each claimants in 2020, and the remaining half will be processed and paid after the 2021 Budget is announced.
Officials will be present at La Misere school on Saturday 14 March from 9am to 1pm to collect copies of the claimants' National Identity Cards, which will be provided to the Treasury for the issuance of cheques. Alternatively, claimants can come to the 1st Floor, Ministry of Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning, Liberty House, Independence Avenue, Victoria during normal office hours to submit copies of their NI Cards.
Work continues on auditing the details for the second batch of 500 individuals.
