Government appeals for way leaves for implementation of projects.
December 12, 2019
Over the past few years a total of over SCR 292.4 million worth of projects are still not implemented, awaiting for way leave permission. There are currently forty-seven, (47), projects identified for implementation in various districts to benefit different communities that have been either cancelled or put on hold until the necessary way leaves are obtained by the government.
The lack of way leave for government capital projects is an increasingly concerning factor which affects timely implementation of government projects at district levels, thus resulting in delayed or cancelled projects on a yearly basis.
Albeit, a number of projects, which were budgeted for implementation as part of the government’s Public Sector Investment Program, could not be implemented as planned, as the required way leaves to undertake the projects could not be obtained.
The government is therefore appealing to landowners to please consider providing way leaves for the implementation of planned projects that will benefit the communities.
