Work on La Gogue Dam is almost half done, but contractors have encountered delays mostly due to bad weather
June 21, 2019

La Gogue Dam Project is well on track and should be completed by May next year, if nothing hampers progress. The project is now almost half complete with a delay of about three or four months. This statement comes after a site visit by the Minister for Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning, Maurice Loustau Lalanne and his delegation and PUC’s Chief Executive Officer, Philip Morin, his Deputy CEO, Joel Valmont and other representatives from PUC, and Sinohydro, the principal contractor from China.
Minister Lalanne said that he is satisfied with the work being done by all parties and commends them. He noted that there have been some challenges, but in all, things are going well.
La Gogue Dam has a holding capacity of one million cubic metres, and once completed it will hold 1.6 million cubic metres.
On his part, PUC’s CEO, Philip Morin noted that the water level in the La Gogue Dam now is 13% and that it will drain completely in two weeks’ time.
He noted that the delay in completing the project has a lot to do with the constant rain, making it difficult to work. Mr Morin said that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure that water from the dam is safe. The area around the dam will be fenced and landscaping done as well to preserve the environment. At the same time, Mr. Morin is calling on the public to refrain from coming to the dam, and to use the existing water sources properly to avoid pollution.
He is also calling on the public to save and collect water.
