Let's focus on our work, says Minister responsible for Finance, Trade, Investment & Economic Planning at first meeting of CEO of entities.

Discussions on how best to improve and formalize networking and collaboration between the Ministry and its entities and vice-versa, as well as provide updates on the implementation of the 2018 budget and preparation of the 2019 budget, the Access to Information Bill, policies and guidelines were some of the points of the meeting. The meeting organised by the Ministry of Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning, was part of the overall planning of improving the quality of services being offered to the public and clients of the Ministry and its entities.The idea is to improve accountability, transparency among the Ministry and its entities.

"We are here to work and how we work together is important; communicating with the public should be done on a regular basis", says the Minister responsible for Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning, Maurice Loustau -Lalanne, during his intervention. 

The first meeting with all Chief Executive Officers and heads of all Agencies falling under the purview of the Ministry, took place on Tuesday 29th May 2018, at Liberty House, chaired by Minister Loustau-Lalanne. The Ministry is the parent ministry to 21 agencies and the meeting organised were specifically for budget-dependent ones. And Tuesday's meeting was attended by representatives from the FIU, Postal Regulation, Procurement Oversight Unit, Public Enterprise Monitoring Commission, Fair Trading Commission, Small Business Financing Agency, SIB, FSA, Trade Department, SLA, National Bureau of Statistics, the National Tender Board. The Secretary of State for the Ministry, Patrick Payet, Principal Secretary for Trade, Cilia Mangroo, Principal Secretary of Economic Planning, Elizabeth Agathine and other senior officiers from the Ministry were also present.

Some of the CEOs spoke about some of their main challenges, such as the retention and recruitment of technical staff, communication problems, review and updating of policies and guidelines as well as public perception.

Minister Lalanne appealed to all to focus on their work and to deliver to the best of their abilities. He said that he need their support and that he will also attend a first board meetings of the different entitites. It was agreed that it is imprtnt that such meetings take place and that quarterly meetings will take place from now on to provide updates, touch base and discuss any other issues.

Another similar meeting will be organised for state-owned agencies under the purview of the Ministry as well.
