Resumption of Seychelles’ Accession to the WTO |
Seychelles has officially presented its Memorandum of Foreign Trade Regime (MOFTR) to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), a stepping stone towards resuming negotiations for re-entry into the WTO since it was suspended in 1997. The document was presented by Mr. Charles Morin, (chief negotiator for WTO Accession) to the director of the WTO Accessions Division, Mr. Chedu Osakwe (picture below) Friday, May 8, 2009.
The MOFTR provides the members of the WTO with a ‘snap shot’ of the current economic situation in Seychelles, with a particular focus on fiscal, monetary and trade policy of the country and includes future economic policies which the Government is expected to undertake in the short and long term. WTO members will then have the opportunity to ask questions on the current economic situation and the Government’s trade policies which affect goods (which includes agricultural and other industrial products), services and intellectual property. |
